James Adler
Library Technician, Circulation Department, Kornhauser Library
JamesJames arrived at Kornhauser Library in August of 1999. Before that, he worked in the Library at Vincennes University Junior College in Jasper, Indiana, where he also had an enjoyable time teaching a reading class to undergraduate students. He spent two years as a full time volunteer in homeless and battered women's shelters in North Carolina, and worked as an assistant counselor in a drug and alcohol treatment facility in Indiana.

When he is not roaming the stacks at Kornhauser, you are likely to find him between the covers of a book, poring over maps, or crawling through mud in subterranean chambers. His interest in caves has led him to co-edit two books for the National Speleological Society. Other favorite pastimes include bird-watching, hiking and lively debate.

Bettie Horton
Circulation and Interlibrary Loan Service Point Coordinator, Ekstrom Library
image The only one in her family not born in Kentucky, Bettie is now the only one living in Kentucky. Bettie was born in Ohio, moved to California after high school swearing to NEVER live where it snowed again. She married a native Californian, had one daughter, Kelley (born on St. Pat's Day) and held a wide variety of jobs from phone operator to computer technician. After 20 years service, Bettie retired from Monterey Park (California) Public Library, divorced (after 36 year marriage) and moved to Kentucky where she ended up at UofL, Ekstrom Library Circulation Department.

Denyse Anger
Library Assistant, Interlibrary Loan, Kornhauser Library
DenyseSince September 1999, Denyse has worked as a Library Assistant in Interlibrary Loan at Kornhauser Library. Before moving to Louisville with her husband, Chris, in November 1998, she worked at the Berkeley Public Library for seven years. When the library celebrated its centennial in 1993, Denyse served on the Centennial Committee, contacting area businesses for donations and organizing a month-long series of author readings. With her husband Chris as co-organizer and emcee, a second successful reading series was launched in the fall of 1995, culminating in an evening with Alice Walker. This was a free event which drew over 300 people and was the largest public program the library has ever had.

She's very happy to be working at Kornhauser … "in such a relaxed, friendly environment and to be a part of the University for the wealth of information and opportunities that it offers."

Karen Habeeb
Library Assistant, Acquisitions Department, Kornhauser Library
HabeebPrior to her first "real" job as Acquisitions Assistant at Kornhauser Library, Habeeb worked as a restaurant hostess, a kitchen manager, a bookseller/supervisor for Waldenbooks, and was a student assistant at Art and Kersey. She is six hours away from completion of her B.A. in Humanities-Ancient Culture at UofL. Some of her other interests include early and classical vocal music, textile arts, food, and archaeology. She is a cantor and section leader at St. Agnes Catholic Church, and performs weekly with the acapella ensemble evenSong. This past summer she went to Portugal as part of the University's dig at Torre de Palma, a late Roman villa. In her free time, Habeeb enjoys translating Greek and Latin texts, knits obsessively and faithfully watches Cubs baseball. She acts as loving mommy to three black cats: Castor, Pollux, and 'Nestra.
